Do you have a word of the year?
It is something that friends of mine have done, and until recently I hadn’t ever picked a word. In short, a word of the year is new for me. When January would come around, I couldn’t stop to even think enough to come up with this “word”. Let me begin by explaining what exactly I am referring to.
A word of the year is chosen in the beginning of a new year. It is a way to help set your intentions, theme for the year, or even something specific to focus on throughout the new year. It is meant to be a word you focus on that will be a way for improvement of your own life. It is a way to start the year on a positive note and let go of all the negativity. It is a time given to allow YOU to focus on YOU and making sure you are checking in with yourself (which I might add is VERY important).
I used to think a “word” was silly, and I have to admit I even laughed it off a few times. I didn’t need a word of the year! In all seriousness, I felt I couldn’t pick just one word for my year. I had 10 words, and to narrow it down would only make me anxious. As I mentioned before, I tend to have lofty goals which only lead me to lose track of what I want to achieve. I couldn’t predict the year ahead, how on earth was I going to pick a word to focus on?
Recently, I had an epiphany. This all came to me in the middle of a workout class this past week!!!!! The instructor was motivating us, and casually mentioned my word out loud in class. It hit me. It was something I have heard often, but in that moment the definition made sense to me. I had a word. Furthermore, I could even declare that one word for myself for a whole year!
